Hi,
I got this O2 station from work, they removed the original HDD, so I
bought a new 36G SCSI ultra160 80-pin SCA-2 hdd for it, but now i need
to install IRIX from scratch. I downloaded the IRIX 6.5.22 CDs from
SGIs ftp, but they are not ISO images, just file structures? How do I
burn a bootable CD from them (I guess at least the first one should be
bootable?).

I tried burning a bootable CD from Nero, but Neros ships only with a
DOS boot image, and I am doubting if that will do the job? Any help?

thanks!

You can't. You need the base 6.5 CDs as well as the 6.5.22 --
what you are looking at is just the "overlays" (changes since 6.5
original)

What you have downloaded is only usefull for an *upgrade* of a *already
up and running* IRIX OS.

1. Theses *.tgz files doesnt come with some files which are needed for
the boot process.
2. Only a few ppl and google knows how to create a bootable EFS cd
3. You need also the IRIX 6.5 (foundation 1+2, sometimes some more) for
a installation

Ask the previous owner of the System. It might be happend that our
System only have a license for < 6.5 ( i always forgot if 6.2 or 6.3 was
for O2)

I would have been happy just to make a set of CD's that would be
recognized by install. I made several attempts without success at all. I
ended up putting the files on the SGI harddisk in a directory, that
works. To make that process bearable with several machines I used a pc
with an FTP server to copy the file to the SGI machines.
